Alvaro Ruiz (Sales Manager, Latin America), Andy Edwards (Director of Engineering), and Michelle Hu (Senior Marketing Manager) attended the event.
The event’s attendance was high, and we enjoyed meeting with potential partners and current customers and learning more about the state (and future state) of the industry.
Here are our three main takeaways from the 2018 RFID Journal LIVE! event:
1) RFID is booming
“The industry seems to be thriving, and we heard rumors of RFID tag sales growing in the 20-25% range,” Andy Edwards stated.
2) The retail industries make up major market share
“The biggest market continues to be in retail, where the technology has seen inventory accuracy improvements from 60-70% using barcodes to around 95% with RFID. The tag volume in the retail space is helping drive costs down for everyone and enabling use-cases in other applications,” Edwards said.
As an example, we see the use of RFID technology in the airline industry finally gaining some momentum, and where tests have shown it can reduce baggage mishandling by around 25% with huge savings for the carriers – and of course, more customer satisfaction.
The RFID adoption journey continues!
3) The reign of UHF RFID
“UHF RFID is now being used in the same breath as IoT (Internet of Things) and is just one technology to help track ‘things’ through cloud-based systems,” Edwards continued.
“Other technologies being used include Bluetooth (BT), Wi-Fi, and Zigbee,” he said. “Of course, the software is a huge component, and industries will have to align to ensure compatibility across different organizations.”
