Implement Cerner-certified solution, reduce maintenance and IT support costs.
When the time came for Royce Digital’s customer to open its newest state-of-the-art 27-acre campus, with two medical office buildings and a 262-bed hospital, the company recommended the Printronix Auto ID thermal barcode printers. To ensure the Cerner Certification requirements were met, Printronix’s Customer Application Engineering Team developed custom firmware delivering the flexibility and efficiency required for multiple work environments.
The Printronix printers were to be placed in central patient admissions and used to print three different types of patient wrist bands, each containing 128C and data matrix bar codes, for patient identification and to house their personal medical history critical for administering medication. The balance of the 200 Printronix printers were to be used in the laboratories to produce documentation such as vial descriptions and imaging sleeves.
The key attributes that drove the decision for this major institution to choose Printronix over the other brand were the printers’ reliable performance, long durable work life – as long as five years -, noticeably higher print quality, especially with very small infant wrist band bar codes, ease of use and quiet operation. Lower maintenance cost was another critical factor because these printers must support unrelenting around-the-clock hospital operations.
